Healing Hearts
"Healing Heart" is the Women Welfare Foundation's ongoing mental health project. Mental health remains a stigmatized and neglected area in many parts of Nepal. The project focuses on the Bardiya, one of Nepal's most war-affected regions. Our goal is to provide support and care to women who have experienced trauma, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse during and after the war.
The primary beneficiaries of this project are women suffering from mental health issues such as anxiety and depression as a result of the decade-long civil war during the Maoist insurgency. The long-term effects of a decade-long war, which resulted in the loss of their families and loved ones (more than 13,000 people lost their lives), created lifelong traumas and mental health issues. Women and children were the most vulnerable population during and after the war because they were subjected to domestic violence, psychological torture, child marriage, rape, human trafficking, and the pain of losing loved ones all at once. Our current project focuses on victimized women in Nepal's most war-affected region, the Bardiya District.
