Service Description

On 1st November 2024, Women Welfare Foundation organized a meeting with the local government of Bardiya district to discuss the interrelationship between gender and climate change. A day-long meeting covered crucial aspects regarding climate change and how it disproportionately affects women and children on that. Besides this, in depth discussion was conducted highlighting how gender friendly climate policies can be introduced and practiced in the local community and beyond. Our program manager Mrs. Garima Pant, stressed on the need and importance of women empowerment and education in rural villages like Bardiya and requested everyone present to contribute on gender responsive climate literacy initiatives. Furthermore, Arpan Dahal, president of Women Welfare Foundation expressed his interest to work collaboratively and provided some policy recommendations to the local government. Mr. Tilak Ram Lamsal, Mayor of Thakurbaba Municipality expressed his commitments to prioritise and integrate gender responsive climate policies. 20 people from different wards including representatives from local government. media and local organizations were present in the meeting. They also briefly explained about their existing policies and initiatives including their future plans. Everyone praised the women welfare initiative for gender responsive climate literacy programs which were targeted to school students and community people. They also wished to see such programs in the future. The program was facilitated by Mrs. Babita Yogi, Women Welfare Foundation's local coordinator of Bardiya. The participants were provided with snacks and per diem at the end for their time and active participation in the meeting and discussion program.
